A few tales...

Inspired by the reality of the Niowra tribe, on the island of Papua New Guinea, our students were asked to write their own imagined tales.

TI ZÉ - A Tale
Once upon a time there was a far, far away island called Papua New Guinea.
On a tragic day, an 18-year-old boy went on an expedition with his friends through the forest.
After three hours of walking, this boy called Ti Zé decided to rest for a little bit and fell asleep. Unfortunately, he forgot to warn his friends, so he ended up lost and alone.
When he woke up he noticed a sound, the creepy walk-like sound of a crocodile and quickly picked up the spear he had on his back . Then he hid behind a bush and waited for the crocodile to go away. After that, Ti Zé returned to his village.
When he arrived to the village, he saw it had been invaded by deadly crocodiles. The only thing that remained was a bow and some arrows. No huts, no food... everything had been destroyed. As for his people, the ones who managed to escape were on top of the montain.
So, feeling angry and willing to solve the situation, brave Ti Zé picked up the only bow left and started fighting all the crocodiles. Soon, all crocodiles were gone.
When the people came down the montain, they cheered in happiness and built a statue in honour of Ti Zé.

CROCODILE FATHER FOR 1 MONTH - A Tale
On the island of Austropaupa there is a ritual for boys when they turn 18: to become accepted in the tribe as adults, teenage boys have to go through some tasks.
One of them is to find a crocodile egg in a hut which is full of dangerous obstacles. After that, they have to take care of the egg until the baby crocodile is born.
When it happens, teenagers have to be responsible for the crocodile.
During this ritual, they need to feed the crocodile with the best food and with the sacred water of the "Jaydion River". They have one month to teach the crocodile to be strong and brave.
When the crocodile becomes an adult, the boy becomes an adult, too.
This ritual is very important for the boys to learn to be responsible, hard-wroking and careful. In the future, when they have children, they can use that knowledge.
